Japan-Backed Vietnam Sunergy to Launch $30M Solar Cell Plant in June

Vietnam Sunergy Wafer, a Japan-invested solar cell manufacturer, is set to begin production at its $30 million factory in Hung Yen province this June.

According to a project report, the company aims to finalize administrative procedures by May and install equipment in June, preparing for full-scale operations. The plant spans 2.65 hectares in Minh Quang Industrial Park and will focus on producing silicon wafers, a critical component in solar cells.

Hung Yen’s Booming FDI Landscape

In 2024, Hung Yen attracted $1.5 billion in 71 new FDI projects, marking a record-high investment for the province. The region, strategically located near Hanoi, has drawn a total of $8.5 billion in foreign investment to date.

Hung Yen’s industrial infrastructure continues to expand, with 17 industrial parks planned over 4,395 hectares10 of which are already operational.

With Vietnam Sunergy’s new plant on the horizon, Hung Yen is reinforcing its position as a key hub for renewable energy manufacturing in northern Vietnam.
